Made from elm, this plate was designed with a wide rim to showcase some added texture. I first painted the rim green then hand carved some lines to let the wood show through. In pottery, this technique is known as sgraffito, from the Italian for ‘scratched earth.’ Whether you use the plate to serve a small treat, hold a candle or act as a catch-all, it will add some natural beauty to your surroundings.

Top Diameter: 7-1/2”
Interior Diameter: 4-1/2”
Height: 3/4”

Rene Dubos was a French-American microbiologist, environmentalist and author. He is credited for the well-known maxim, “Think globally, act locally.” With a humanistic philosophy, he believed in an optimistic future as nature is resilient and humans have become increasingly aware of the dangers inherent in their activities. We can benefit from our successes and apply lessons learned to solving other environmental problems.
