Orleans Vase

$37.00

This piece was buried in a pit to be fired. Flames created the fantastic interplay of colors—red, orange, gunmetal, black and white. Some parts have a nearly metallic sheen even though it’s made of clay. It would make a great decorative accent on a table, shelf or mantle. Still somewhat porous, the vase is ideal for dried flowers as it won’t hold water. But a plastic tube is included so it could be used with fresh flowers as well.

Height: 4-3/8”
Top Diameter: 2”
Maximum Diameter: 4-1/4”
Bottom Diameter: 2-3/4”

In the Orleans Ranger District of Six Rivers National Forest in northern California, the indigenous Yurok people have created the Cultural Fire Management Council to protect the area against wildfires. The Yuroks have known for centuries that fire is a natural part of the forest ecosystem and keeps everything in balance. Regular, controlled burns reduce the understory and eliminate the fuel that wildfires feed on.
