Fired in a pit firing, the peach, burgundy, off-white and black coloring on this piece is completely random, caused by flames interacting with organic material in the pit. It has an iridescent quality from being burnished before firing. The lines of holes descending from the top represent raindrops falling to earth. They’ll create an interesting pattern on the surrounding area when lit by a tealight candle within the piece.

Top Diameter: 3-1/4”
Bottom Diameter: 3-3/4”
Height: 3-3/4”

The worst acid rain in the U.S. occurs in the mountainous areas of the Northeast, including the area around Manchester, Vermont. Factories in industrial areas emit sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide, then these compounds mix with water to create acid rain. With thin soil in the mountains, the ground isn’t able to neutralize the acid in the rain. As a result, acid and aluminum accumulate in the soil, streams and lakes. Stricter emissions regulations enacted by the Clean Air Act have greatly reduced the sulfur dioxide raining down on this area.
