Hunga Tonga Tray
The unusual colorations on this tray were made by flames while it was buried in a pit for firing. With a little imagination, the tray can been seen to depict a volcanic eruption, as the one which occurred in early 2022 in the South Pacific. They tray won’t hold liquid and shouldn’t be used for food, but would be a fabulous decorative accent on a table or shelf. Add a few pine cones, acorns or sweetgum seed balls for an organic, natural display.
Length: 14”
Width: 5-1/2”
Height: 3/4”
Hunga Tonga is an underwater volcano in the South Pacific, about 40 miles north of the main island of Tonga. The volcano rises more than 6500 feet above the sea floor. The only above-water part of the volcano are the twin uninhabited islands of Hunga Tonga and Hunga Ha’apai. The eruption in January 2022 blasted more water vapor into the atmosphere than any other volcanic eruption in history—the equivalent of 58,000 Olympic-size swimming pools. That may temporarily raise the earth’s surface temperature in years to come.
