Miyazaki Lace-Up Bowl
Imperfection creates its own kind of beauty in this small cottonwood bowl. After turning, the bowl was bound and determined to crack, despite our best efforts. Rather than fighting a hopeless battle, we drilled holes on either side of the crack and laced it up with leather cord. Now it has even more character and charm. Perfect for holding trinkets, jewelry or office supplies or serving nuts, this bowl adds a rustic yet refined touch to any space.
Top Diameter: 4-3/8”
Bottom Diameter: 2-1/2”
Height: 2”
With Japan’s rapid economic growth in the 1960s and 1970s, industrialization caused heavy air and water pollution, and unchecked development destroyed the natural environment. Hayao Miyazaki is an animator and filmmaker who has achieved international acclaim. His works are characterized by the recurrence of themes such as humanity's relationship with nature and technology, the wholesomeness of natural and traditional patterns of living and the importance of art and craftsmanship. The protagonists of his films are often strong young women.
